Pharmatech Presents Positive Clinical Results At The Pan-Pacific Conference

Denver, Colorado – July 25, 2003

(Denver, Colorado) – July 25, 2003 – Pharmatech, Inc., a Research Management Organization (RMO), has presented preliminary data from a clinical trial testing the combination of Nipent® and Rituxan® to treat patients with Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia (CLL) and Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma (NHL). The data results from the study were presented at the Pan-Pacific Lymphoma Conference held in Mauna Lani, Hawaii, July 21-26, 2003. The purpose of this study was to assess the effectiveness and safety of the combination treatment, either as front line therapy or after disease progression following other therapies.

The Principal Investigators of the multi-center study were Juliann Smith, MD and the late Sebastian George, MD of Cancer and Blood Institute of the Desert (Rancho Mirage, CA). It was conducted at fifteen independent, community-based research centers, all members of the Pharmatech Oncology Research Network. The meeting abstracts were authored by George F. Geils Jr. and Sr., MDs of Charleston Hematology Oncology (Charleston, SC).

“The Nipent and Rituxan protocol was brought to this Network in 2000 by Dr. Sebastian George. We are very proud to see his vision realized and pleased that the benefit to cancer patients bears further investigation of these drugs combined with other agents,” remarked Eric Lynam, VP of Research and Development for Pharmatech. “Now that the relative safety of a Nipent® and Rituxan® combination appears reasonable over a good number of patients, adding proven agents such as alkylators or anthracyclines may give us clinical efficacy even beyond what the doublet is doing.” Pharmatech and its investigator sponsors will launch two subsequent studies in fall 2003 to study the combination of Nipent®, Rituxan® , and Cytoxan® in NHL and CLL patients.

Pharmatech supports a 790 member network of community-based cancer researchers to provide innovative care to cancer patients through clinical trial opportunities. Pharmatech, in collaboration with SuperGen, Inc., is conducting a series of Investigator Research Advisory Meetings to share data, clinical ideas, and discussion of the research experience involving Nipent®. The upcoming meeting is scheduled for August 22-24, 2003 in Scottsdale, AZ, with another to follow in October in Orlando, FL.
